In the foothills region, a family’s worst fears nearly became a reality when their beloved orange cat, Cheeseball, went missing during a fierce late November snowstorm.
As days turned into weeks, the hope of finding their feline companion dwindled, and they reluctantly prepared to move on, even welcoming a new kitten into their home.
Cheeseball Was Missed Greatly
Cheeseball’s disappearance left a void in the heart of 9-year-old Bailey, his devoted owner. The family spared no effort, scouring the neighborhood, distributing flyers, and posting on local forums, desperately seeking any information that could lead them to their missing pet.
Just when all seemed lost, a miracle unfolded. Twenty-three days after Cheeseball’s disappearance, a stranger’s call brought unexpected news – their beloved cat had been found, a staggering eight miles away from home and across the formidable Highway 285.
Cheeseball Was Found But Was Very Weak
The couple who discovered Cheeseball described a heartbreaking scene: the once-vibrant feline was weak and emaciated, his eyes pleading for help as he sought refuge in the woman’s arms after narrowly escaping the perils of the road.
Thanks to the family’s diligent efforts in distributing flyers, including one on the Nextdoor app, the couple was able to reunite Cheeseball with his anxious owners.
The ordeal, however, had taken a severe toll on the adventurous cat. Upon his return, Cheeseball required immediate medical attention, spending three days in the hospital battling hypothermia, a low heartbeat, shallow breathing, and dangerously low blood sugar levels. He had lost half his body weight and needed intravenous fluids and a possible feeding tube to regain his strength.
Cheeseball the Cat Returns Home
Despite the harrowing experience, Cheeseball’s indomitable spirit prevailed, and he is now back home, resting and recovering from his month-long odyssey.
Bailey, overjoyed at her beloved pet’s return, offered a poignant message: “Don’t give up because your cat could come back.”
